From your hosts
“I’ve been writing for years about how to live courageously despite anxiety, self-doubt, and other barriers. What I’ve learned is that community is essential, and that’s especially true for artists.
As a novelist and blogger, I listen to a lot of excellent podcasts about craft and publishing, but what I often need is the motivation to keep writing—to know I can do it, that it’s important, and that I’m not the only one who struggles. I need to be reminded that the creative process is fun and beautiful, and that the suffering artist trope doesn’t have to apply to me. That’s why this podcast exists. We want to be that voice for you that, at the very least, encourages you to keep doing what you love.”

“Writers are different from most people.
And yet I can help anyone become a better writer.
How is that even possible for me to do if writers are a set-apart subgroup from “most people?”
It isn’t.
What I can do, however, is show you how to help yourself and help others help themselves. You see, writers are observers of the human condition. In fact, most people are observers of the human condition. We all are. Writers just write it down.
Emily and I want to give you a safe space to do that: to write down what you see and share it with each other once you are comfortable with each other. Picture Emily and me unlocking the gate to an entire amusement park for you. What you do once you are inside is up to you. Hang together so no one gets lost – and if you do find yourself separated from the group, no worries. Emily and I will be up front by the gate, making suggestions. Just meet with us up here by the gate, and we’ll help you reconnect with the others. That’s what we’re here for. We’re here by the front gate for you.
We really only need you to do one thing: Go through the gate.
Get out of your bubble, and go through the gate.
Why am I personally doing this? Because I genuinely believe that every voice matters. Whether you write fiction, creative non-fiction such as memoir, poetry, screenplays, or letters to your grandma – your voice matters. Most of you I haven’t met yet – but because every voice matters, your voice matters. If you ever doubt that, our community will be here to remind you that it does.
Your voice matters because you matter.”
