Christy Award Winner Jamie Ogle Discusses Research and Finding Hope
EPISODE 47) Christy Award winner Jamie Ogle explains how for her first novel Of Love and Treason, her research into the real St. Valentine and third century Rome helped her in finding hope amidst the past darkness. Then the discussion moves onto AD 310, in the shadow of increasing violence against Christians in the Eastern Roman Empire, where Jamie’s new novel, As Sure As The Sea, takes place. This time the story involves the arrival of Nikolas, the new pastor in the port city of Myra, and a sunken treasure, which could provide relief to so many in dire need.
Jamie discusses the responsibilities and life-changing awakenings that comes with research and historical fiction.
And Jon Meyers cries again.
OUR HOSTS GET OUT OF THEIR BUBBLE
Speaking of new books, Emily is writing a new book on nourishment: mind, body, and spirit. Best of all, the first chapter flowed out smoothly and wonderfully.
Jon Meyers’s skull is abused once again on his way to… the 50th Wedding Anniversary vow renewal gala of celebrity screenwriter Bob Saenz and his beautiful wife Margie. Pastor Clay Baggett is there, and so is WriterCon alum (and future podcast guest) children’s author/playwright Sheila Gunlock.

#HEYJONMEYERS
Emily teaches Jon Meyers why birds celebrate Valentine’s Day. Wait, huh? That’s not it? Well, birds are involved somehow. You’ll have to watch the episode yourself.
WEEK FIVE OF WHY IS THIS BABY CRYING?
Jon Meyers teaches Emily yet another reason her child might be crying. Actually the intention is to increase awareness of reasons other children have cried so that Emily can avoid these situations once her child is born.
CALL TO ACTION
Jamie wants you to practice adding a detail — one word — to something you’ve written. Cool. One word. Send us your response by replying to this email, commenting on YouTube, or on facebook underneath where we posted this episode.
THE FINAL ACT: SPONTANEOUS MEET CUTE
Emily has Jon Meyers stitch together a meet cute comprised of his pre-selected story elements. Jon Meyers tries to make fetch happen again and sighs a lot.
